New Faces at NSSI for Back to School

The National Safe Surfacing Initiative is pleased to announce the addition of Karen Sherman and Rick Johnson as NSSI Certified Program Managers.

Karen is a graduate of the University of Iowa and has a background in law and commercial real estate.

As a mother of three, Karen recently gained first hand knowledge of the NSSI's playground safety offerings when, as PTO president, she raised over $100,000 toward improving the safety surfacing of her children's school playground.

Rick is a graduate of Iowa State University and brings a unique understanding of Iowa schools, as they have been a part of his life since he was a child.  Rick grew up involved with a variety of school activities with his father, a school administrator for over 37 years.

Both Rick and Karen will spend much of their time working with schools, childcare centers and public park officials in designing safer outdoor play and fitness environments through the use of DuroMat Extended Life™ playground safety surfacing while also providing a host of professional services including financing solutions.

These two new additions to the NSSI have both attended National Playground Safety School at the University of Northern Iowa, provided by the National Program for Playground Safety (NPPS).  Their S.A.F.E. Certification from the NPPS, will allow them to provide professional services to schools, parks and cities when it comes to safe playground planning and design.

The National Safe Surfacing Initiative® (NSSI) partners with government agencies to improve the safety and ADA accessibility of outdoor play and fitness environments for young children, aiding in the development of both the strength and confidence of our youth as well as building life long habits of healthy activity through the use of the only rubber tile safety surfacing proven to reduce serious playground injuries.
