National Safe
Surfacing Initiative Teams up with Presidents Council on Physical Fitness and
Sports to "Get America Moving"
50th Anniversary
Celebration Stresses Public-Private Partnerships
The National Safe
Surfacing Initiative® (NSSI) was recently recognized as a 50th
Anniversary Partner to Get America Moving and has joined the 2006 yearlong
celebration of the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports (PCPFS).
"We are proud to work with the
President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports as a 50th Anniversary
Partner to Get America Moving," said Tim Mahoney, President of NSSI. "We congratulate the Council for fifty years
of challenging Americans to be safe, healthy and fit.
The NSSI partners with government agencies to improve the safety and ADA
accessibility of outdoor play and fitness environments for young children,
aiding in the development of both the strength and confidence of our youth as
well as building life long habits of healthy activity through the use of the
only rubber tile safety surfacing proven to reduce serious playground
injuries.
"We're delighted to
have the National Safe Surfacing Initiative as a 50th
Anniversary Partner to Get America Moving," said Melissa Johnson, executive
director of the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. "We've
established the 50th Anniversary partnerships to recognize the valuable
contributions in health and fitness of our longstanding colleagues and friends
and to establish relationships with new partners who are doing this vital work
today."
"We've worked very hard to
promote safety and fitness for children and it's an honor to be recognized as a
50th Anniversary Partner of the Presidents Council on Physical
Fitness and Sports", stated Shannon Godwin, Director of Communications for the
NSSI. "We believe that childhood fitness begins at an early age when young
people first start out to challenge their minds and bodies in ways that require
both mental and physical fortitude."
With the help of the
National Safe Surfacing Initiative; communities, child care centers and
elementary schools are able to provide healthier play and fitness environments
for young children, preparing them for more physical challenges in the years
ahead.
Godwin added, "Through the
use of NSSI certified safety surfacing, we will continue to improve the safety
and accessibility of outdoor play and fitness environments, and promote the fundamentals
of play and fitness in early childhood.
Through our combined efforts, we will continue to promote the ideals of
the Presidents Council on Physical Fitness and Sports for young people across
the U.S."
