National Safe Surfacing Initiative Pleased
with Initial Test Marketing Interest in California
The National Safe Surfacing Initiative (NSSI) recently
attended the California Association of School Business Officials annual
tradeshow in San Diego California. This
show was attended by school administrators, facilities directors and safety
engineers from many of California's school districts from across the state.
The state of California requires
elementary schools to follow Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC)
guidelines for playground safety.
California schools, like schools across the nation, struggle to find
safe surfacing that meets CPSC guidelines without the cost or maintenance
required by loose fill materials.
The NSSI booth included 100sqft of surfacing, that many
school officials were able to experience for the first time. The response to our rubber tile surfacing
along with the ease of installation and maintenance was enthusiastic.
"At this show we've had serious discussions with three
different groups of school administrators who expressed concerns about the
safety of their current playground safety surfacing and we talked about what
they liked about DuroMat Extended Life® playground safety surfacing offered by
the NSSI," stated Shannon Godwin, Director of Communications for NSSI. "Facility Managers appreciated the design of
the tiles and the fact that they do not interlock allowing them to be easily
replaced if damaged."
"Risk managers and legal representatives for the districts
were very impressed with the fact that NSSI tested rubber tile surfacing has
been proven to reduce playground injuries and also meets all federal and
industry guidelines for safety and ADA accessibility."
"Business managers liked the fact that the surfacing can be
financed over time and that maintenance costs would be substantially reduced."
"This was a great show for us because we were able to hear
the concerns from several school officials responsible for the safety of their
outdoor play and fitness environments", stated Tim Mahoney, NSSI President. "Our
initial research has shown significant demand for this type of product in
California; the school administrators we've talked with at this trade show have
confirmed that. Based on the response,
we look forward to expanding our presence in this market over the coming
months."
The National Safe Surfacing Initiative® (NSSI) partners with government
agencies to improve the safety and ADA accessibility of outdoor play and
fitness environments for young children, aiding in the
development of both the strength and confidence of our youth as well as
building life long habits of healthy activity through the use of the only
rubber tile safety surfacing proven to reduce serious playground
injuries.
